Let's Talk Music: Paramore's 'Now'
Hey duders! From time to time I like to get y'alls opinions of some of the jams that everyone is talking about... so let's talk music.
Paramore’s “Now” is here! I will admit, I first heard the song from a leak on Tumblr because I just couldn’t wait. I will also admit I had very high expectations for this single and had a clear vision in my mind of what I wanted this first single to sound like – and I got everything I wanted.
I got a refreshing sound, I got Hayley Williams’ incredible vocals that hit me like a Batman “POW” to the face and I got lyrics I can find common ground in. I can also honestly say I was saddened to read what Paramore fans have been posting on the Internet; unhappy with the song because of the obvious new influences. I personally love seeing my favorite bands grow as artists and following their guts.
I'm bringing my sinking ship back to the shore
We're starting over, or head back in
There's a time and a place to die but this ain't it
I think “Now” has a little bit of the same attitude “Misery Business” has in the verses, the soaring vocals of “Decode” in the bridge and confronting lyrics of “Monster.” I am thrilled they have expanded on their sound and I love hearing Hayley’s vocals showcased in a different way. I also love the influence producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen has had, I just want more!
But you tell me! Take a listen and let me know if you want to turn it UP or turn it DOWN!
