Coachella day 2 was fantastic! Two of the big names I had been anxiously awaiting to see for the first time live were The Shins and Radiohead -- and they were both incredible. But I will get to that all in a moment.
Started off the 100-degree day right as The Black Lips took the stage causing me to immediately begin to dance. They played a fun set with great banter, and I even spotted a little boy (I guess 6) on someone’s shoulders sporting huge headphones, waving his arms around and bopping his head. Already going to Coachella at six years old? Amazing.
Next, while enjoying some watermelon, I checked out Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, and she has incredible stage presence. Not to mention she was wearing a super sexy long-sleeve white sequin body-con dress with nude stilettos. She sounded pitch perfect and she oozed rock 'n' roll. Some new acts to note that I enjoyed were The Head and the Heart and tUnE-yArD. Both completely different sounds, but I am excited to try and catch both of them again in LA.
I also checkied out Manchester Orchestra, Feist and Bon Iver. Manchester was heart-pounding, Feist was fun and came with a lot of dancing, and Bon Iver had a stunning stage design that made the entire desert feel romantic and tranquil.
Now back to The Shins and Radiohead. The Shins (photo above) went on just as the sky was darkening and everything around the stage was completely lit up. I have been a fan of The Shins for a few years now, and they played just the right balance of old and new songs. And of course they played “New Slang”, and I sang along as loud as possible. It was an absolute highlight for me so far this weekend.
Radiohead was the headliner of the night on the main stage and their set was insane. They had huge screens (see photo above) that lowered down above them in all directions. The large monitors on either side of the stage displayed cameras that were directed on each member. At one point, Thom Yorke had his entire face in a camera singing to us; it was so creepy! They played a 21-song set, including some personal favorites like “15 Step” and “House of Cards” and they closed the two-hour set with “Paranoid Android”. Seeing Radiohead in the middle of the desert was something I will never forget. Ever.
Anyway today is my last day and I plan on checking out The Hives, Real Estate, At The Drive-In, Florence and many more! I don't want this weekend to be over! #musicrules.
