When people find out what I do, they always seem to ask who my favorite band is; fair question. I just always have a hard time answering. There is so much music I love for different reasons, but when I really think about it, I would say one of my all time favorite bands is Jimmy Eat World. They have never put out an album I didn’t love and seeing them live is always a treat.
After two years Jimmy Eat World is just about ready to give us their 8th full-length studio album. The band has been documenting the album's progress via social networking sites Twitter and Instagram; posting news on October 5th the albums was officially finished with the recording process. Yesterday it was revealed the album has graduated past the mixing phase. The album as been mixed by James Brown who has also lent his talents to Foo Fighters' Grammy Award Winning album Wasting Light and Nine Inch Nails' With Teeth -- just to name a few.
In a recent interview with Arizona based blog Phoenix People, singer and guitarist Jim Adkins revealed how mixing the album is the final critical step creating the sound of the album.
“We’re not quite finished with it yet, and I think a lot of what makes your final product is the mixing. It can really determine the presentation of it, and we haven’t done that yet. What I’m hoping to get out of it, the way we’ve been recording it, it’s a lot less slick. It’s not to say we didn’t take our time and mix it and make sure performances were good and things were sounding good, I think we just had a better sense of what to let go and what to focus on. That comes from paying more attention to the vibe of things rather than the perfection of things. The short answer is that it’s definitely rougher-sounding, a little grittier. I don’t think it’s going to sound like anything we’ve done. It’ll be similar yet different.”
It was also revealed via Twitter fans might be able to expect some covers coming their way soon. Looks like there will be a lot to look forward to hearing from Jimmy Eat World very soon. I can’t wait! #musicrules.
